Everyday I see something that makes me mad and to prevent any more court cases, I figured I’d write about it. So welcome to entry ONE of the BITCH FIT! This one is entitled B.I.P!

B.I.P stands for Beating In Public. B.I.P is bigger than anyone will ever know seeing how the issue is rarely reported to officials. According to my own eyes, over 2,000 cases per day of B.I.P occur in the DC area alone. Just now as I was in Target waiting at the register I saw two separate cases of B.I.P. B.I.P usually occurs among Black mothers 27 years of age and younger. The victims of B.I.P are generally african american children ranging from the ages of 2-6 years old.

The biggest problem with B.I.P is that it happens over situations that should not lead to B.I.P. An example of cases that lead to B.I.P can be a child crying over the fact that their mother won’t buy them a toy or candy they wanted. Another example can be that they pissed off their parent by running off in the store and no one wants to chase after a child. No, no, no!!! Please don’t get me wrong…I am a firm believer that sometimes a child just needs that ass whoopin in order to understand but all I am saying is that there is a time and a place for everything.

If you are in the middle of purchasing your items at the cash register then that is not the time nor place for B.I.P. If you are in the parking lot of a busy store then that is also not the time or place for B.I.P. It’s not necessary to beat your child’s ass in aisle 3 when you’re only two minutes away from checking out and 10 minutes away from being in the privacy of your own home.

Please just try to restrain from beating your child at LEAST until you get out of the public eye. Change the “P” in B.I.P from “Beating in Public” to “Beating in Privacy.” Beating in Public is doing two things to damage the black community. 1.) Making black mother’s everywhere look bad and 2.) Scaring the white people. Please take this CALL TO ACTION to stop B.I.P everywhere! Thank you.

Sincerely,

It finally hit me that some things are more important and growing up in a very small family, it’s hard to say goodbye for so long. All I ever had was my brother mother and sister but we’re spread out in different parts of the world now.

I’ve learned a lot about myself from being by myself and realized I lost my core values. My mom raised me to be strong and so there is never a challenge i feel i can’t conquer. Learned the hard way that what doesn’t kill you only make you stronger. Life gets rough at times but even during the worst moments I still find a way to connect with my family through the colors embedded within me.

Growing up with a single parent, I have grown accustomed to the values of my mother background. Her Trinidadian influence will always be apart of my whether I like it or not. When I look at the Trinidadian I see the colors instilled in me.

RED= symbolises the strength and energy in me

WHITE= truth and innocence within me

BLACK= represents my authority and power.

Death of I’m so involved, death of the attitude, death of the know it all. La, da, da, da- Hey, hey, hey-Goodbye!

At which point did us as young college students get so full of ourselves to the point where we not only build up our own ego, but where we try to knock our other hardworking peers down…Still thinking? Yea, I don’t know either.

I find it funny that the people with the least experience are the ones with the biggest egos. This could be because they need to feel secure about themselves or simply because it gives them a sense of entitlement. Even in Beyonce’s song “Ego” she touches on the fact that she “talks like this” cause she “can back it up” and whether or not you love Beyonce you have to admit that she’s on her grind. Somewhere down the line we forgot we needed to start at the rags and work ourselves up to the riches.

Are we already at the point so young in our lives where we think we can judge people based on their ethnicity, age and how they look just because we’ve had a couple of internships? What did we really do at these internships to the extent where we’re so full of ourselves? Did we build an empire like Diddy or a dynasty like Jay Z? No, reality is that we made copies, did research or got coffee all while having the chance to work on major projects from time to time.

The Ego is taking over and getting out of control to a point where we don’t even realize. Just because we’ve had a few internships doesn’t mean we know everything. No one ever does, that’s why you don’t see successful “one man” businesses. The Ego is directing hundreds to a new career field called hateration where they can aspire to be nothing but professional haters. Yeah, try putting that on your resume and see how far you will get. Although, I can’t say I wouldn’t hire you for motivational purposes.

Any success you have should be acknowledged but not to the extent where you try to put other people down or act like you’re superior to them. Don’t get me wrong If somebody asks me how I’ve been I will tell them but no one needs to hear about what you’ve done every two minutes especially in situations where it’s irrelevant. It’s possible to be successful and humble so if you think you know a lot spread the knowledge because you are replaceable in any industry.

In the short time I’ve been at Howard University I’ve seen “The Ego” not only walking around the campus but walking around any place in the District of Columbia that allows you to be apart of an organization, committee or internship program. The way they flood the bathrooms, the hallways, the classrooms and even the Punchout really makes me wonder, “Is the Ego the next big epidemic we as college students will face since the plague?” I hope not. That’s why I’m calling to action D.O.E.-Death of the Ego.

Before you get offended and ask yourself “is she talking about me?” the answer is NO. This is not directed to anyone personally but if you have to ask yourself then maybe you should consider some D.O.E.

La , da, da, da-Hey, hey, hey-Goodbye!

I started looking at Howard shortly after enrolling in community

college. I knew I wanted to be in either DC or NY because of the

internships that were offered there. One of my close friends Ashlee

Moore was getting ready to transfer to WASU (Washington State University)

and kind of talked me into to going there with her.

She made a lot of great points about how I should be close to home and

how I should go with people I know and basically she sold it to me.

She was getting ready to graduate from the community college and

I was looking into going with her but a couple month before her

graduation she passed away in a car accident from drinking and

driving. That was a complete 180 in my life and unexpected.

I decided to stay at the community college for another year so

that I could leave with my Associates and I started looking into

Howard again. So in a way I didn’t choose Howard, it chose me.

This is a poem I wrote my first semester a Howard to go along with

my speech on Drinking & Driving for my principle of speech class.

By the end of the poem everyone was crying and of course I got a

standing novation like I did with all my speeches. But every time I think

hear about drinking and driving I automatically think about Ashlee. You see

the campaigns and listen to the speeches in school and make jokes about

not even remember driving home after a really good party one night but It

can definitely happen to anyone.

R.I.P Ashlee Shantel Moore.

I LOVE YOU

IMAGINE:

Imagine them getting dressed and

going to a party on that Saturday night
Imagine them hanging out with their friends

and having the time of their life

Imagine them constantly being pressured

to drink by their "so called" friends

Imagine them not knowing the effect it

would have on their night when they finally

gave in

Imagine them being so wasted

that they could hardly talk
Imagine them crawling on the ground

because they’re unable to walk

Imagine how they feel when no one will help

as they just laughed and stared

Imagine how alone they feel even though

there are people near

Imagine what was going through their mind

as they leave and stumble into their car
Imagine how them starting their engine will

leave them with more than just a permanent scar

Imagine their pain when they drive 90 miles per

hour and straight into an electric pole

Imagine the denial of a mother who has to bury

her child who was only 19 years old

Imagine getting a call at two in the morning

and hearing the words "Oh My God They’re

Dead"

Imagine the feeling of waking up every morning

and wishing it were you instead

Imagine going to class on Monday

having to look over to an empty seat
Imagine walking past that empty lunch table

were they always use to eat

Imagine calling them up in hopes

that they would answer their phone
Imagine only being able to talk to them in a

cemetery through their tombstone

Imagine dealing with the fact

that they are really not here
Imagine if only one person took a moment

that night to just stop and care

Imagine how grateful you would be

if they were still alive
Imagine how all this could have been prevented

if they didn't drink and drive

Imagine!
